The World Cup began on June 11, 2026 and it’s already off to an exciting start. This weekly hub will provide you with insight on storylines, events, and information across the three hosting cities. 



World Cup Storylines to Watch

  1. This is the first time hosting duties have been spread across 3 countries. It will be interesting to see how the USA, Mexico, and Canada perform with home field advantage. Check out Sean Leahy’s article to see how host countries have historically done in the World Cup.

  1. 48 teams are competing in the 2026 World Cup. To win the World Cup, a team will now have to play 8 matches instead of the usual 7. With the inclusion of 16 additional teams, more countries will have an opportunity to win the World Cup.
