RWMC Current Events - Week of 10/5/26

Event 1
According to Front Office Sports, the Kansas City Chiefs have created a production company named Foolish Club Studios. The Front Office Sports report mentions that this is a first of its kind studio owned by a professional sports team. This is an interesting shift in the industry to sports teams having businesses outside of sports. Teams are trying to get creative when it comes to reaching new audiences in the age of social media.
As Front Office Sports points out the Chiefs are by no means the first sports team to branch out into the content creation world, but are the first to do it at this level. This shows a continuing need for emerging professionals to be versatile across multiple forms of media and content creation. Being able to do everything from broadcasting to social media to writing and editing is more important now than ever.
Event 2
Founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos told Brett Baier of FOX News in an interview on October 7th that AI could reduce the work week to three days instead of the current five. The journalism industry is being affected by AI the most as some schools and outlets have turned to AI generated content to replace actual reporters. This has been bad for the industry so far as AI produced content is filled with factual and grammatical errors.
This AI push raises questions about ethics in journalism. Companies have blindly jumped on to the AI train without considering if it is better for the viewers and can be done in an ethical way. This shift will have drastic effects on journalism and other industries if the prediction made by Bezos comes true. The reality is though that AI is here and here to stay and the industry is going to have to adapt to it one way or another.
