Together we CAN make a Change!
"When people ask what I plan to do with my degree, I always say I am not sure. Truth is, I am very sure, but it is just that most people want a short answer – coach, teach, be a doctor, etc. but that is not my answer. People always ask why I don’t coach full time, teach, get into the education field, or get a job in public relations. I always said I did not want a traditional desk job, but not because of the hours but because of the mundane routines where you have specific responsibilities to hand into your boss every day. Well, I do want routine and do not mind an office, but I do not want to be limited to the responsibilities of just one job. Truth is, I want to do it all. I want to do all of those things. I know I like to talk to people and do not want to be restricted to a desk, but able to meet and interact with people. I know I want to work in sports and I know I want to help kids. I have bigger dreams than working in one job.
As I did research in my graduate courses and heard administrators, teachers, parents, superintendents, principals, and professors, the very people who impact our lives, say they have no answers and that nothing could be done, I knew I had to do something, Through my work, I want to be the voice of people in need, I want to be a small part of change. Even if I just help one person, that is one person more than I would have helped if I had done nothing but just worked in an office job in corporate America. I want to be a lawyer, but not fighting crime. I want to fight the ignorance and flaws I see within our society. I want to be a teacher, not only educating people on the education gap but providing solutions and steps towards those solutions. I want to be a coach, teaching kids about soccer and basketball. I want to be a doctor, but instead of helping patients with my hands and stethoscope, with my words. I want to be a veterinarian, providing animals with a healthy life because just like people, they need love and care too. I want to be a sports broadcaster, connecting to my audience to not only understand the latest scores and sports news but also encouraging them to take part in sports events towards helping the community. Finally, I want to be a journalist, using my writing and presentations to help inspire more change. I want to work in education, sports, health, and public welfare. I want to model the way as a leader and pioneer for a change in perspective and behavior. I know what that job looks like, truth is I never had the courage to do it. However, I do now and I can make a change." Together we can make a change!
